2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat: Costs, Facts, And Figures

While sales of US manufactured sedans have plummeted in recent years, partly due to the exploding popularity of the SUV, the dodges Charger remains the single bright spot. StellPower reports that the Charger achieved a 15% growth year-over-year according to a 2021 report.

Dodge offers the Charger in several trim levels, with various engines and performance to satisfy every buyer. And while the SXT, R/T, GT, Scat Pack are good performers, the cream of the crop is the SRT Hellcat and the SRT Hellcat Redeye.

In the high-performance sedan segment, the closest competitors are the refined BMW 5 Series, the ultra-modern EV Tesla Model 3, and of course, the Charger’s sibling, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The Hellcat’s Supercharged Hemi V8 Is Without Equal

For 2022, Dodge offers the base-model Charger with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that generates 300 hp and 264 lb.-ft. of torque, while an upgraded 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine delivers 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. The Scat Pack trim level features a 392 Hemi V-8 engine that produces 485 hp and 475 lb.-ft. of torque.

At the top-end of the Charger lineup, the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 in the SRT Hellcat delivers an impressive 717 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, while the SRT Hellcat Redeye equipped with a supercharged high-output 6.2-liter Hemi creates a whopping 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque.

AWD is available on SXT and GT trims, while the remaining trim levels are rear-wheel-drive only. All models send power to the rear wheels via a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission.

Charger SRT Hellcat: A Sedan Or Muscle Car?

Although the Charger SRT Hellcat and Redeye variant qualify as sedans, arguably, they also fall into the American muscle car segment. The Hellcat has similar characteristics to the original 60’s era muscle cars such as the Plymouth Road Runner 426 Hemi and the Pontiac GTO that featured impressive power and acceleration in a straight line, but limited handling capability through the curves.

Dodge claims the Hellcat is the fastest and most powerful mass-produced sedan in the world. The standard version Hellcat accelerates to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and reaches the quarter-mile in 11.9 seconds at 124 mph. The Hellcat Redeye does 0-60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds and covers the quarter in 11.5 seconds at 126 mph.

Dodge includes electric power steering with three driver-selectable steering modes on the SRT models: Street, Sport and Track. Launch Control, Race Cooldown, Launch Assist, and Line Lock help improve performance.

If all the performance features of the Charger SRT Hellcat are still not enough to satisfy a buyer’s thirst for power and speed, the Redeye Widebody Jailbreak model bumps the cars’ power from 797 to 807 horsepower and offers several aesthetic features not available on the standard Hellcat .

The Charger SRT Hellcat comes with an 8.4-inch touchscreen providing a hands-free smartphone environment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. A Carbon & Suede package creates a sportier atmosphere with a carbon-fiber interior trim and a faux-suede headliner.

Every Charger SRT Hellcat includes a 200-mph speedometer for the driver who occasionally likes to monitor how far over the over-the-limit speed the Hellcat can go on the open highway.

JD Power gives the SRT Hellcat a safety rating of five stars (out of five) in three categories, overall rating, overall side crash rating, overall side barrier rating, and four stars for overall frontal barrier crash rating.


2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Price

The SRT Hellcat Widebody has an MSRP of $76,045 for the base model, while the more powerful SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody goes for $84,645.

Both trims are less expensive than two of the three closest sedan competitors, the BMW M5 Sedan that sells for $103,500 to $111,100, and the Tesla Model S priced at $69,420 – $94,990. The less expensive Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has an MSRP of $61,380.
