Free fitness activities are set to heat up those chilly winter days with the Be Active, Be Alive Winter program kicking off this week across the Bundaberg Region.
Reformer pilates, cardio tennis and disco boxing are new activities to the Be Active, Be Alive program, being held at different locations within the Bundaberg Region.
Old favorites still feature in the program including clubbercise, mSwing, yoga and tai chi to ensure there is something for everyone.
Council’s Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Cr Vince Habermann said BABA was a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to offer their services to the community.
“It is great to see a number of new local businesses who have come on board as part of this program, hosting sessions in their spaces to provide the chance for people to see what they are all about,” Cr Habermann said.
“There are a range of different session times available, including morning and evening classes to make sure there is a time for everyone to try an activity they might be interested in.
“We love seeing the community get involved in the Be Active, Be Alive program and look forward to seeing its success once again.”
Most sessions are free to attend without bookings, however, those who would like to attend reformer pilates are encouraged to reserve a spot through the council website.

• CSR (Cardio, Strength, Resistance)
• Gentle stretch

BABA serves up cardio tennis
A new cardio tennis activity, called Bounce into Tennis, is new to the Be Active Be Alive program this year.
Coach Murray Whitbread said the sessions would teach people how to play while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the game by the end of the six weeks.
“The Be Active, Be Alive program shows our community how centralized our club is, how great our facilities are, and how easy it is to participate in the game of tennis in a fun way that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle,” Murray said .
“Bounce into Tennis is a 45 to 60 minute six-week course that helps you to improve your fitness, learn new skills and spend more time exercising outdoors.
“Facilitated by a qualified tennis coach, the tailored classes consist of warm up, drills, games and a cool down and by the end of the course, you will be all set to serve, rally and understand the scoring system.
“These new skills give the foundation to then continue playing tennis on a regular basis, whether in a social or competitive environment.”
The tennis sessions are held at the Bundaberg and District Junior Tennis Association at 69b George St, South Bundaberg.
