JEWL N’STARS SPLIT WEEKEND CONTESTS
The Owen Sound Creative Playgrounds North Stars under-19 team played split back-to-back Junior Elite Women’s Lacrosse division games Friday night in Acton. Owen Sound defeated the Toronto Beaches by a score of 12-9 in their first of the two games. Attacker Kennedy Stauffer led the team in scoring with five goals. Tara Meikle netted three and Jill Goldie netted a pair. Singles came from Laine Nissen and Emma Bryan. Owen Sound then faced Kitchener-Waterloo in their second match-up. The game was tied 8-8 at halftime but KW held the North Stars to only three goals in the second half. Owen Sound fell to KW with a final score of 17-11. Kennedy Stauffer, Jill Goldie and Emma Bryan each scored two in the contest and singles came from Laine Nissen, Tara Meikle, Brooklyn Doyle, Karly Low and Taylor Chegahno. The N’Stars will take the field again on Sunday in Oshawa for back-to-back games starting at 9:00 am against Orangeville.

BEYER ON FIRE IN WEEKEND SPLIT
The Owen Sound European Bakery North Stars under-19(2) girls played two games on Saturday in Orangeville in Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse action. The girls faced Burlington in their first match and cruised to a 12-6 win. Scorers were Leisl Stata, Aliviah McCall, and Aliyah Bonterre with singles, Maddie Playter with a hat trick, and Edyn Beyer with her second six-goal game of the season. The North Stars then faced Guelph in their second game, falling 11-10 to a last-minute goal. Owen Sound’s goal scorers were Edyn Beyer with four, Maddie Linklater and Maddie Playter with a pair, and Aliyah Bonterre and Aliviah McCall tallying one each. The team hopes to improve their record to above .500 next weekend when they travel to Oshawa to face off against Hamilton and Halton Hills.

U15 NORTH STARS STRUGGLE IN ORANGEVILLE
The Owen Sound Krueger Custom Steel North Stars under-15 girls were back in action this past Saturday in Orangeville. The N’Stars first game was against Kitchener-Waterloo. After a hard-fought battle back and forth with an outstanding offence, defense and goaltending, the team came up short. The final score was 6-5. Owen Sound’s goals were scored by Bree Wilkins (2), Emma Cooper (1), Camryn Stauffer (1) and Ryann Seaman (1). In their second game, Owen Sound lost to Halton Hills 16-9. Owen Sound’s goals were scored by Bree Wilkins (3), Emma Cooper (2), Ryann Seaman (2) and Camryn Stauffer (2). The North Stars are back next in action Saturday, June 25 in Halton Hills.

McCOUBREY NETS FIVE OVER WEEKEND ACTION
The Owen Sound Berner Contracting North Stars under-13(2) team was in action again this weekend in Orangeville. The girls played two tough games Sunday afternoon. In the first game against Six Nations, the girls rallied from a five-goal deficit at halftime to lose 6-5 as a final score. Goals were scored by Reese Harvey, Addison McCoubrey (3) and Jenna Cranny. In the second game against Kitchener-Waterloo(2), the girls again lost by a single goal with a 4-3 final score. Goals were scored by Ava Ward and Addison McCoubrey (2). A solid showing in the net, making some great saves was Hailey Frede. The North Stars are back in action in two weeks in Halton Hills.

LINES EARNS SHUTOUT, ALL SCORE IN U11 VICTORY
The Owen Sound MacKinnon Plumbing and Heating North Stars under-11 girls’ team had a great showing in league play this past weekend. The North Stars defeated the Toronto Beaches 7-1, with Quinn Norton, Keeva Fox and Olyvia Wagner each scoring two goals, and Atayvia Jackson scoring a single. In the next game, Harper Lines got the shutout as the team defeated Guelph 17-0. In an incredible showing and some creative coaching, each of the girls on the team scored at least one goal – Quin Norton (3), Olyvia Wagner (3), Lyla Doyle (2), Briar McCoubrey (2), Isabelle Brown (2 ), Reese Harvey, Keeva Fox, Adeline Lemon, Chloe Nickel, and Atayvia Jackson. The team is next in action on June 26 in Halton Hills.

NAIR BACKSTOPS UNITED TO FIRST WIN
Simon Nair earned the shutout as Owen Sound Gray Motors United posted their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Kitchener Banat in Kitchener and District Soccer League action at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex Sunday evening. Nair stopped a penalty shot to preserve the win. Jeff Fawcett scored the game-winner for Owen Sound. Grey Motors record now stands at 1-1-1 (win-loss-tie) Next action is Sunday, June 19 when United visits the Guelph Royals.

WILDEBOER BROS. EARN BRONZE AT NATIONALS
Twin brothers Sean and Alec Wildeboer competed at the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association’s 2022 Nationals Tournament in Brampton over the weekend in the blue belt division with both earning bronze. Last year, the brothers were crowned Canadian champions in their respective weight classes in the white-belt division.

OWEN SOUND KARATE CLUB HOSTS RANKING
On Saturday, the Owen Sound Nihon Itosu Kai Karate Club held a ranking at Saint Dominique-Savio School. The ranking was run by Daniel Tsumura, 6th Dan, of Toronto and chief instructor of the Canadian Itosu-Kai Karate and Kobudo Association. Fourteen students from the Owen Sound Club and one student from Collingwood tested for their next belt. Black belt instructors from Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Meaford, Collingwood and Toronto were in attendance to grade the students.
