Floyd Mayweather boasts of earning $100m for “fake fight”

Floyd Mayweather has claimed that a member of Logan Paul’s team has reached out to hold talks for an exhibition rematch.

The boxing legend fought YouTube star Paul last year in an eight round exhibition contest which saw Paul survive the distance in a remarkable achievement. Both Mayweather and Paul have exchanged heated words since with Paul claiming that he is yet to be paid a chunk of his £15 million purse that he expected to earn from the event.

Mayweather has accused Paul of “clout chasing” and believes the YouTube star is trying to use his name. “Someone from his team who actually put the exhibition on who I was working with reached out and said that Logan Paul wanted to do another exhibition and this is the same guy that said he didn’t get paid,” Mayweather said at the press conference to announce his latest exhibition in Japan.

“You guys have to watch these guys that are clout-chasing by using the Floyd Mayweather name. I am not sure exactly who reached out but this is coming from the same guy who said he didn’t get paid.”

The initial exhibition between the pair last June generated huge interest with the event selling around one-million pay-per-views around the world. Paul has previously claimed he would never rekindle any rivalry with the boxing legend following his last bout, but is planning to return to the boxing ring in the future.

He recently posted a message on social media to Mayweather on the one-year anniversary of their bout, writing on Instagram : “One year ago today, I fought Moyd Fayweather. He’s hard to hit, but even harder to collect money from. Who should I fight next?” Mayweather has since gone on to fight former sparring partner Don Moore in a lucrative exhibition that was staged in the Middle East.

The boxing legend claimed he may have earned up to $100 million for his latest exploit against Moore having earned around $65 million for his previous meeting with Paul. Paul also suggested that he was asked to be the opponent for the meeting which eventually took place with Moore but rejected the offer.

“They asked me if I wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather again, Jeff did… one of Floyd’s guys,” Paul told Maverick Club. “On top of that Burj Al Arab with that tennis court in February.” I told him to f*** himself, first of all you have to pay me the rest of the money that you owe me. Second of all go f*** yourself, but what if I give it to Jake?”

Paul has since verbally agreed to step back in the boxing ring and face Brazilian YouTuber Whindersson. He was called out by the South American on social media but is yet to enter any formal talks for a potential bout. Meanwhile Mayweather will take on his second exhibition in Japan when he will face MMA star Mikuru Asakura.
