the ford GT was essentially an American mid-engine 2-seat super car manufactured by Ford that went into production in 2005. This was the first time the GT was sold to the public after it began its life way back in 1964 as a race car to compete in the 24-hour Le Mans. The vehicle was built to dethrone Ferrari, who had been winning the prestigious race for consecutive years and was successful with the mission as it won the race from 1966 to 1969, including a 1-2-3 finish in 1966. Koenigsegg, on the other hand, was established in 1994. The company has just over 400 employees. Every car and nearly every part of the car is hand-built by the Swedish hypercar maker. The CCX was the third-generation Koenigsegg model and was introduced in 2006. It was a technological marvel as it was made to be one of the fastest cars in the world.


The Ford GT was a super car legend, while the Koenigsegg CCX was a modern-day machine made to shatter speed records. Both these super cars played a key role to help solidify their brand name in the realm of super cars.

Ford GT vs. Koenigsegg CCX: The Design

The year 2005 marked Ford’s 100th anniversary, and to celebrate this, the carmaker decided to build a car that pays homage to its famous Le Mans winning, legend the humiliated Ferrari, but for the road. There was a subtle nod to the one-hundredth anniversary in the headlamps as they have ‘100’ neatly designed in them. The front of the vehicle is very sharp and angular, and the two hood scoops on the bonnet add to the aerodynamic efficiency. The engine is mounted on the rear axle just like the original race car. The back end is also very similar to the actual race car, and the engine is on display under the glass cover. Throughout the exterior, there are a lot of cuts and creases to channel the air towards the engine and keep the GT planted at high speeds.


The Koenigsegg CCX, on the other hand, has a very subtle design, and since it is a modern-day car, it has an impressive 50-50 weight distribution between both axles. One of the exterior’s highlights happens to be the stunning door that the carmaker uses. It is a complex mechanism called a dihedral synchro-helix door that operates via a special mechanism in which the doors pop out and go upwards in the same motion. The vehicle’s body was primarily made out of lightweight carbon fiber, giving it an incredible power to weight ratio. Like all Koenigseggs, the CCX was designed with a removable roof to create a convertible, where the roof panel would fit into the front storage area.

The Ford GT used a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine with a power output excess of 550 HP, and even the torque figure was rated at 500 lb-ft. The vehicle came with a 6-speed manual gearbox only that sent the power to the rear wheels. The mechanics were reasonably advanced as it had a torque-sensing limited-slip differential on the rear axle. The power figure is marginally higher than the original race car, and the top speed happens to be well over 200 mph.

The Koenigsegg CCX had a powerful 4.7-liter twin-supercharged V8 engine. This engine produced over 800 hp and 679 lb-ft of torque. So, it could rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and had a top speed of 245 mph, making it one of the fastest cars in the world back in its days. Apart from the impressive numbers, the supercar also had clever aerodynamics. The rear spoiler added up to 130 lb of downforce on the front axle and 143 lb of downforce on the rear axle at speeds of over 120 mph for added stability.

Ford GT vs. Koenigsegg CCX: The Legacy

The Koenigsegg CCX began its life in 2006, and its production was seized in 2009. The company managed to produce 29 units of the incredible supercar. This might seem like a minimal number, but Koenigsegg sat in a very exclusive club of automobiles because every car was hand-built.

On the other hand, the Ford GT began its life in 2004, and its production was halted in 2006. This was the first generation produced, and in 2017 the company launched the second-generation car, which is still in production. Over 4,000 units of the first-generation Ford GT were ever made, and in today’s market, they are auctioned for well over half a million at Mecum.
