Heathrow and Gatwick: Stunning holiday destination 3 hours from London that’s ranked as the cheapest LGBT+ friendly party spot

As the sun continues to shine down on London that summer feeling is taking over many in the capital. As we approach summer holiday season many will be looking for the perfect spot to set off for some much needed time away. A great spot for LGBT+ people where there’s a great social scene at a reasonable price is Sofia in Bulgaria.

According to The Bottle Club, the European destination is just three hours away from London and plane prices can be as cheap as £20 one way meaning a trip away will not break the bank. For the LGBT+ community, a real concern when looking at where to jet off on holiday is making sure that they will be able to express their sexuality whilst visiting the country.

The Bulgarian capital is said to be a prize spot for LGBT+ people to celebrate on holiday with the average drink costing just £1.29. There’s three main gay areas in Sofia including Plovdiv, Varna and Blagoevgrad and with 170 hotels in the city there’s plenty of places to stay whilst enjoying the 53 different gay bars and clubs scattered around the city as well as enjoying its beautiful architecture.

Those looking for a part holiday need look no further than Sofia, with an array of LGBT+ clubs and venues on offer there’s a great mix of new places to visit in the Bulgarian capital.

Bulgaria, as a country, has welcomed same sex marriage and outlawed discrimination against sexuality meaning that LGBT+ people should feel comfortable enjoying a holiday in the capital city.

Amongst the hotspots available in Sofia is Club Essence, a lesbian night club open on Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays so there’s plenty of opportunities to visit.

Club Barcode, in the heart of the Bulgarian capital is home to dancing and play Bulgarian music alongside dubstep to keep the party going late into the night.

When in Sofia it’s worth taking to social media to have a look at The Vault at The Steps bar, an event which takes place just a stone’s throw from the Saint Sofia Monument in the heart of the historical city.

Outside of the nightlife, Sofia is a fascinating city to explore filled with Cathedrals and churches nestled alongside beautiful mountainous landscapes which can be visited on one of the city’s many bus tours.

Other holiday destinations that have been named amongst the cheapest travel spots with a vibrant LGBT+ nightlife include Budapest, Prague and Copenhagen which are all popular holiday destinations welcoming a mass of tourists year on year.

For LGBT+ holidaymakers looking to make a last-minute decision on where to fly off to this summer Sofia may just be the perfect place to spend time in the sunshine.

How to get there:

Flights to Sofia from London go to and from the Bulgarian capital and both London Gatwick and London Heathrow airports. It will take around three hours to reach your destination and flight prices vary.
