LWT, HWT Rowing Completes Day One at IRA Championship

LAKE WINDSOR, NJ—The Columbia Heavyweight and Lightweight Rowing teams concluded day one at the 119th annual Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta on Friday at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, NJ Saturday’s races begin promply at 8 am ET.

Five Columbia boats competed in eight races on Friday, including three Lightweight teams and two Heavyweight teams. Columbia’s First Varsity 8 Lightweight team finished in 5:44.996, took second place out of four and advanced to Final A. The Lions took second by just one second behind Georgetown.

Columbia’s Varsity 8 Heavyweight squad raced two times on the day. The Lions took fourth place in their first heat in 5:55.428, then finished second out of four to advance to the CD Semifinals.

Columbia’s Varsity Lightweight Four squad placed seventh out of 14 boats with a 6:22.200 time. Then in the semifinal, the Lions took third place out of seven to advance to the B Final.

Saturday’s schedule for Columbia is as follows:
9:40 am, First Varsity 8 Heavyweight Semifinal CD
10 am, Second Varsity 8 Heavyweight Semifinal CD
11:20 am, Lightweight Four Grand

Two boats are scheduled to race on Sunday:
9:40 am, Second Varsity 8 Lightweight Grand
10:30 am, First Varsity 8 Lightweight, Grand

The regatta runs through Sunday. Racing begins at 8 am each day. More information including live results, schedule of events, ticketing, and historical results is posted at this link.
