TROY, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team will play 34 regular season games during the 2022-23 season, including 19 at the Houston Field House. The schedule features four games against 2022 NCAA Tournament teams, as well as visits from Alaska and the 45th Annual Big Red Freakout! against Yale.
The Engineers host Colgate and the University of Toronto for a pair of exhibition games on October 1 and 2, before opening the regular season at home with a two-game series against Mercyhurst, on October 7 and 8. RPI continues its longest homestand of the year the following weekend, when LIU and Army visits the Houston Field House (Oct. 14-15).
Rensselaer hits the road for the first time on October 18, when it heads to Buffalo, NY, to face Canisius for a mid-week, non-league clash. The Engineers close out the week by hosting the United States National Development Team Program in an exhibition (Oct. 21).
ECAC Hockey play begins the final weekend of October, with RPI hosting Union, before heading to Schenectady the following night (Oct. 28-29). Friday is the annual “Blackout!” game against Union.
The yearly North Country road trip follows, with RPI heading to St. Lawrence and Clarkson (Nov. 4-5), before RPI returns to the Houston Field House to welcome Harvard and Dartmouth (No. 11-12). The series marks the earliest the travel partners have come to town since the 2014-15 season.
RPI will host Alaska for just the second and third times ever and the first since 1986 on November 18-19 after playing four games in the Last Frontier last year. The Engineers will then play a home-and-home with Hockey East foe Vermont on Thanksgiving Weekend, heading up to Burlington on November 25, before hosting the Catamounts on November 27.
The Engineers return to conference play for a single weekend (Dec. 9-10), when they travel to Quinnipiac and Princeton. The series wraps up the first half of the season.
Rensselaer makes the trek west to face Bowling Green for a pair before the New Year’s holiday (Dec. 29-30), but is back at home for two conference games against Colgate and Cornell the next weekend (Jan. 6-7); The earliest the Engineers have played their central New York foes since 2009-10.
RPI visits Yale and Brown (Jan. 13-14), before wrapping its season series with Clarkson and St. Lawrence at home (Jan. 20-21). The 10th playing of the Albany Mayor’s Cup against Union at MVP Arena follows (Jan. 28) – the final non-conference game on the schedule.
A road trip to Cornell and Colgate (Feb. 3-4) kicks off the team’s February, before Alumni Weekend follows against Brown and Yale (Feb. 10-11). The matchup with the Bulldogs will be the 45th Annual Big Red Freakout! – their seventh appearance in the event.
Rensselaer then travels to Dartmouth and Harvard (Feb. 17-18), before closing out the regular season against Princeton and Quinnipiac at home (Feb. 24-25) for the first time since 2010-11. The team will celebrate its graduating class against the Bobcats.
