OHSAA updates girls, boys basketball division assignments

A day after shaking up the football divisional and regional assignments for the fall, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced updated divisions for winter sports, including basketball, Tuesday morning.

Because basketball divisions include a competitive balance calculation, the divisions are reassessed each year. The other winter sports — swimming, bowling, girls gymnastics, ice hockey and wrestling — have their divisions set through the 2023-24 season.

In girls basketball, a total of 120 schools (15.6%) moved across the four divisions. From the Columbus area, Centennial moved up to Division I due to competitive balance. Eastmoor Academy moved down to Division II due to enrollment, while KIPP Columbus and North Union moved up to Division II for the same reason.

Johnstown moves from Division II to Division III due to competitive balance, which was also the case in 2021-22. Tree of Life and East Knox moved up to Division III due to competitive balance. Utica and Columbus School for Girls both moved down to Division III due to enrollment.
