Successful Brighton girls basketball coach Paul Ash steps down

Paul Ash is spending more time with his grandkids these days and becoming a better golfer.

“I’m enjoying a lot more golf,” he said. “It’s going good. I’m starting to see more improvement. I have time to get to the range and improve a little bit.”

Ash’s schedule has opened up because he’s no longer coaching girls basketball at Brighton, stepping down from a position he’s held for the past eight seasons.

A varsity basketball coach’s job doesn’t begin two weeks before the first game and end after the final game of the state tournament these days. It’s a 12-month commitment, one which would normally find Ash working with players in camps, open gyms or conditioning workouts at this time of year.
