Sweeney Welcomes Hartman and Felice to Coaching Staff

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former rowing captain Taylor Hartman and graduate assistant Kennedy Felice have been named as the new assistant coaches for Kansas State women’s rowing, head coach Patrick Sweeney has announced.

“Our program is special because of how we recruit and what we do year after year,” stated Sweeney. “Our team demands a lot from the athletes and the coaches, but we see it continue to work because of the commitment and hard work from both sides. We are excited to welcome Kennedy and Taylor into their new positions, where they will continue to contribute to our team’s success.”

Hartman had previously served as the Director of Creative Services/Graphic Design for Athletic Communications.

The Overland Park, Kansas native was a three-time varsity letter winner who helped lead K-State to the 2018 and 2019 Sunflower Showdown title against instate rival Kansas.

“Rowing has given me so much as an athlete and as a student,” explained Hartman. “I am looking forward to giving back to the program and building the next generation of rowers.”

During her time as a K-State rower, Hartman was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team recipient three times and an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honoree once. She raced in the 3v8+ during the 2018 season, the 2v8+ in 2019, then competed in the 1v8+ during the shortened 2020 season and the 2021 season.

Competing in the 1v8+, Hartman placed sixth at the Big 12 Championships in 2021. She also earned First Team All-Big 12 honors during the 2021 season.

During the 2019 season, Hartman earned a silver medal at the Big 12 Championships in the 2v8+.

Felice has served as a graduate assistant coach for K-State rowing for the past two years. She was a member of the rowing team from 2015-2019.

“This team is built off the bravery of the many women who said yes to this challenge,” said Felice. “I am incredibly grateful for the coaches and athletes who have come before us. Each of them helped build me and this program into who we are today. We have a great opportunity to continue pushing this program forward and I am excited to be a part of the future of K-State Rowing.”

The Manhattan, Kansas native was a four-time letterman for the Cats, competing in the 2v8+ during the 2016 season and racing in the 1v8+ for three seasons of her career.

During the Fall of 2015, Felice was a member of novice crews that picked up gold medals in the Novice 4+ and the Novice 8+ events at the Head of the Oklahoma.

After claiming gold at SIRAs in 2017, Felice and other members of the 1v8+ earned Boat of the Week honors.

During the 2019 season, Felice helped lead the 1v8+ to a gold medal in the grand final at the 2019 SIRA Championships. The season was highlighted by the crew’s victory over Kansas at the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. The win solidified a clean sweep over Kansas.

Following the 2018 Big 12 Championships, Felice finished the season with K-State as a fourth-place finisher in the 1v8+, where she also earned First Team All-Big 12 honors.

A four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team award winner, Felice was also named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete following the 2018 season.
