The Eagle Spyder GT Is The Ideal Jaguar E-Type Restmod

Eagle, based in the United Kingdom, has been working on Jaguar E-Types for 30 years, producing both superbly restored originals and incredible restmods. The Speedster, a no-roof, low-windshield beauty based on a Jaguar E-Type that Jeremy Clarkson famously dubbed “the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” was produced here. The Spyder GT, Eagle’s newest model, continues the company’s tradition of jaw-dropping elegance.

The Eagle Spyder GT Is Restored With A Potent Powertrain

The Spyder GT is based on Eagle’s current Speedster, but unlike that model, it comes with a soft-top that folds down. The Spyder GT also gets the higher-output engine from the equally stunning Eagle Low Drag GT coupe, which is a twin-cam 4.7-liter Jaguar XK inline-six with 330 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the aluminum monocoque and other weight-saving measures, the power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission that only has to move 2,269 pounds.

It also has a modern adjustable suspension and a limited slip differential, allowing it to handle and behave like a modern sports car in racing mode (when traction and stability control are disabled). But, best of all, because it started out as a regular E-Type in desperate need of restoration, the finished hand-built car is fully road legal, meaning owners won’t be obliged to keep it solely for track days.

The Spyder GT stays closer to the original Jaguar shape than the Eagle Speedster, whose low-slung bodywork was substantially changed from the original E-Type. The windshield isn’t quite as rakish and low as the Speedster’s, and unlike the Speedster, this variant includes a folding canvas roof. In comparison to the sunny-days-only Speedster, think of it as a magnificent grand tourer.

The Eagle Spyder GT would easily exceed even the fastest E-Type in terms of performance. Officially, it will touch 60 mph in less than five seconds on its route to a top speed of 170 mph. The Eagle is much more expensive, but it is uncommon and collectible, and it has proven to be more valuable than the original E-Type. And it won’t sell in the tens of thousands.
