Here comes your recap from possibly the biggest weekend of college and youth rowing all spring in many respects — and the row2k gallery count for it all is at 44 and climbing.
(Btw: if you want to see the rest of GW’s pretty epic tunnel antics shown in the photo above, the sequence starts here.)
All that racing meant that we saw a lot of:
Trophy Pics and Poses…
With 10 D1 Women’s Championships plus the Pac 12’s combined Championship, Men’s Sprints, Western Sprints, the GNAC Championship and a heap of Youth and Scholastic Championships — trophies, and trophy pics, for days.
Six (and Seven) Across Racing…
Coxswain And Coach Tosses…
We need more of these on Instagram folks, but until then, you can make do with our favorite sequences from the weekend:
Dad Vail deluge
Medalists…and Missing Medalists?
Sarasota Youth 7?
Clever solution for “we can’t find Bobby” for sure by these Sarasota folks.
Some History Made…
Which does beg the question: is making the row2k recap the opposite of the Sports Illustrated cover curse?
…And Some History Seen…

Yep, that is 100 Years or so of Coaching in that 1 Tweet.
Selfies, and Shots of Selfies…
Hers (and note mirror effect):
Actual Selfie thanks to JU senior Emma Schulok, 2022 MAAC Champion
Selfie game was strong all over for newly minted champs coast to coast.

And… Venue Trash Talking?
Is this a thing now, too?

For the record: only one championship site had a racing delay caused by, ahem, debris at the venue–that one.
Other Hits from the Weekend:
Hey Look, the USRowing Logo
Not a Regatta in Philly Until…
The locals start asking when Kelly Drive is going to frigging open up again:
Schuylkill native, on the DV Medals dock
‘Don’t Believe Everything Your Hear on TV’
Otherwise nearly note-perfect ESPN+ announcers: “Brown Wins” . , , which looked like this:
And then came the “Oh, wait…” but by then no one was listening anymore–whoops.
(We tried to explain all the confusion in our Ivies Report, but it was, well, confusing.)
The 4 without a taxman?

Coach Bergman Back on BH Row
Coach was in town for his UPenn Hall of Fame induction.
Ringer of the Week
Spot the Olympian in this lineup:
Rowing Hack? Or New Drill?
Or just some really solid planning ahead in case of a win?
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
This is definitely one regatta’s version of National Teamers going out for the final with a flag in the boat for the medal dock pics.
It’s Not a Rumor
Before we get to actual rumors, here is one thing that is absolutely true: The first person to show up at the line (except for that one program) at a regatta that we are photographing wearing this gets a free row2k shirt and hat, so , um, get yours today?
Rumors & Hearsay from the Week that Was
- “Who ya got: Minnesota or Drexel?” — Philly firemen on safety patrol at the Vails, passing the time by making bets on the races amongst themselves; it’s been a while since the days of betting on races on the Schuylkill!
- Are countless full volume f-bombs required when making multiple trips to medals dock at big men’s races? If 2021 IRA and 2022 Sprints are evidence, then yes. These are family events, so maybe we should think about fucking dousing the fucking F-bombs (and if that reads inappropriately, you see our point).
- Not all Trophies are real Trophies: let’s hear it for the “Stand-in Cup” which made a lot of appearances on the Vails dock if you look carefully through the galleries, but which gave every crew something to hold, and raise!
